If you are a foreign student in the Netherlands it depends on where you come from if you need to have a health insurance or not. For example, if you come from an EU-/EER-country or if you will be working in the Netherlands.
Are you legally insured in the EU-/EER-country where you come from? Then you can sign up at CZ Zorgverzekeringen. For that you need an E106 form. This form you can get by the insurer where you are insured in your own country. With this form you are entitled to medical care under the Exceptional Medical Expenses Act and the Health Insurance Act. If you go back to the country where you are insured (also temporary) then you are entitled to medical care. The telephone number of CZ Health Insurance is 046 459 58 12. More information is available on the website of the Zorginstituut Nederland.
If you stay in the Netherlands and you are not from an EU / EER country? Then you cannot close a health insurance in the Netherlands. This counts also if you have a permit. It is possible to close a temporary insurance. You can close a temporary insurance at Oom Verzekeringen and InsureToStudy. They provides a Schengen Visitors-insurance. This insurance is for anyone who is not eligible for a Dutch health insurance but do want to insure themselves for medical expenses.
If you will be working during your study in the Netherlands, you are obliged to close a Dutch healthcare insurance.
Many students are healthy and so they can save a lot of money on their student health insurance. For example, you can increase your voluntary excess. By doing that, your premium per month will be lower. If you are healthy and if you can pay the costs in the case of emergency yourself, this can save you a lot of money. Also think carefully about whether or not you need an additional insurance. Students often have healthy teeth. If you go to the dentist once a year, it is cheaper to pay one visit itself than to have an additional insurance for it.
Are you a student? Than you can often get a discount. Because students are often healthy, insurers can make special student health insurances.. In our comparison, you can state that you are a student by filling in your age.
